– 대통령 봉사상 안내 –
저희 본당은 Certifying Organization으로서 대통령 봉사상 위원회를 구성하여 신자들의 대통령 봉사상 신청을 돕고 있습니다.
대통령 봉사상 위원회의 구성은 아래와 같습니다.
- 위원장 : 전임 청소년 부장, 임기 2년
- 위원회 : 현임 청소년 부장, 전/현임 주일학교장, 전/현임 한글학교장, 위원장이 지정한 본당의 신자
- 고문 : 본당 신부, 사목회장
대통령 봉사상의 목적은 다양한 자발적인 봉사활동을 권장하여 지역사회의 발전과 더 나아가서는 미국사회의 전반에 선한 영향력을 퍼뜨리자는 데에 있습니다.
대통령 봉사상의 신청자격은 아래와 같습니다.
- 미국 시민권자 및 영주권자
- 만 5세 이상
- 12개월의 기간동안(연간 금상, 은상 및 동상) 혹은 일생에 걸쳐서(평생 봉사상) 적합한 봉사활동을 이행
저희 본당에서는 매년 9월에 신청 접수를 받고 있으며 전년도 9월 1일부터 금년도 8월 31일까지의 12개월동안의 봉사시간을 신청 받고 있습니다.
적합한 봉사활동은 금전적인 대가가 지불되지 않는 타인에 도움이 될 수 있는 자발적인 봉사행위를 의미합니다.
정치/종교활동과 교리교육, 미사관련 봉사 등은 해당되지 않으며, 가족 혹은 개인간의 봉사(Babysitting, tutoring)도 해당되지 않습니다.
가족/단체상은 개인봉사시간 최소 25시간 이상인 대상자들의 시간을 합쳐서 가족 혹은 단체의 이름으로 신청이 가능하며, 개인상과 중복 신청이 가능합니다.
Eligibility Requirements
Volunteer Eligibility
United States citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States (i.e., green card holder)
Must be at least five years old
Completes eligible service within a 12-month period (for annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards) and over a lifetime (for Lifetime Achievement Awards)
Eligible Service:
Unpaid acts of volunteer service benefitting others
Service through National service programs that provide a stipend (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) may count towards the Lifetime Achievement Award, but not for the annual Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards)
Travel stipends, transit/parking passes, membership passes, expense reimbursements, and other nominal volunteer support do not impact service eligibility
Eligible Service does not include:
Donating funds
Political lobbying (Non-partisan voter registration is an eligible activity)
Religious instruction
Conducting worship service
Proselytizing
Volunteer service performed as part of court-ordered community service
Serving only family members

- Family/Group Awards
Award given in the name of the group, e.g., “St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Church” or “The Andrew Kim Family”
Each Member much contribute a minimum of 25 hours for their hours to count towards the group total
Each member must meet individual eligibility requirements, i.e., must be at least 5 years old and U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
An individual’s hours may count towards both the individual award and group award, e.g., a teen completing 50 hours may receive a bronze award in addition to the silver group award as a member of a class that volunteered 500 hours collectively over 12 months.
